We are so excited to have had the opportunity to enhance the lakefront and beach at Camp Rokilio! Thanks to Kiel Sand & Gravel for their generous donation of a truckload of sand so everyone can enjoy a soft, sandy beach at camp this summer. | | | | Bay-Lakes Council's Kettle Country District recognized outstanding volunteers at its annual District Awards event on May 17, celebrating leaders for their service to youth.
While local newspapers highlighted a selection of participants, the event honored a broader group of Scouters whose impact spans units and communities across Kettle Country's Dodge, Washington, and Ozaukee counties.
Notably, the District of Merit—the highest honor Scouting America presents at the district level—was awarded to Bryan Hubbard (West Bend), Brian McNutt (Beaver Dam), and Andrew Bublitz (Cedarburg) for their significant, district-wide contributions beyond their normal Scouting roles.
Additional honors include Square Knot recipients, Den Leaders of the Year, Rookies of the Year, and Scouters of the Year across the Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Ship programs.
Each recipient was nominated by fellow volunteers and selected based on leadership, service, and commitment to delivering a high-quality Scouting experience.
Together, these awards reflect the dedication of volunteers who strengthen units, mentor youth, and advance the growth of Scouting throughout Kettle Country.

Including appearances by Jordan Love and other Green Bay Packers, this charity game at the Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium was a packed house.

Open to all Scouts BSA and Venturing participants age 13 and older, including registered adult leaders. This introduction class is designated for anyone who has always wanted to try whitewater kayaking. The class begins indoors with basic safety instructions and then moves to the water. A team of certified instructors will assist you with outfitting the required gear. Once outfitted, you will start your experience in the pond, on flat water, learning various rescues and paddle strokes and building your confidence in whitewater kayaks. Lastly, you will spend time on the Wolf River practicing your skills and going through multiple types of rapids!
Lodging will be inside Wausau Homes Adventure Lodge at Gardner Dam Adventure Base, or you may choose to camp at any site on property. Our excellent cook staff will keep you nourished, starting with a cracker barrel on Friday through lunch on Sunday. A fully trained and enthusiastic volunteer staff provides all leadership, instruction, and supervision for each weekend. Bay-Lakes Council provides equipment, food, lodging, and emergency services.
Be ready to get wet! Scouts must be at least age 14 (or age 13 AND have finished 8th grade), have completed the BSA swimmer classification, and have a completed BSA Medical Form A/B. Each camper is also responsible for all their clothing, swimming attire (we recommend packing 2 sets), towels, bedding, and personal hygiene needs. The cost is $60 for each weekend. Registration for August 8-9 closes August 5 at 11:59 PM!

Youth have the chance to decorate a cardboard box race car, then race it through a dozen stations on the track. We also plan to have some vehicles from various public services—even some actual race cars—that youth can get up close to!
Our goal is to have a FUN event to kick off the upcoming Scouting year! You can use this as a "bring a friend" style event to promote Scouting in a fun, low-key way. Feel free to wear your pack's t-shirt, your favorite Scouting shirt, or even a fun costume; uniforms are not required for this event! Registration is $10 per Scout via this link. For each registered Scout that signs up to attend this event, you may bring a friend who is not currently in Scouts for FREE. | | | | Registration will include a special Cub Scout 500 patch and decoration materials for the box cars for all youth attending; youth can then bring their box car home with them! Are you looking for some ideas on how to run your troop better, need a little spark to help you work better with your patrols, or need a better way to talk to your leaders? Consider NYLT!
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is a leadership course for all Scouts who are age 13+ and at least First Class rank, or members of Venturing Crews or Sea Scout Ships. It is the centerpiece of Bay-Lakes Council’s youth training opportunities. This action-packed program is designed to provide Scouts with leadership experience they can use in their home units and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.
Scouts will return from these courses with the skills needed to lead themselves and others in Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meetings, troop activities, and outings. The benefits extend beyond Scouting, giving them a foundation in setting a vision, working towards goals, planning, developing a team, solving problems, resolving conflict, values and ethics, building resilience, servant leadership—a toolbox of skills they will use at home, in school, in the workplace, and beyond.
We are fortunate to offer two NYLT options again this year: - Our Traditional course runs at Gardner Dam Adventure Base from Sunday, June 28 through Friday, July 3. This six-day action-packed course is right here in Wisconsin, easily accessible for any Scout to grow their leadership skills in a fun, camp-based environment. Registration closed on May 18, but all details can be found here.
- Our Pack & Paddle course runs at Camp Hiawatha in upper Michigan from Saturday, August 8 through Sunday, August 16. Pack & Paddle offers the entire NYLT curriculum, extended over nine days and held on a backpacking and canoeing trek in the Hiawatha National Forest. Registration closes on June 30. All details can be found here.

tomhemr@gmail.com | | | | Eagle Scout Spotlight - Maxwell Gust (Hortonville) | | | | Maxwell Gust (16) is a Hortonville High School student and proud Troop 36 Eagle Scout, located in Hortonville, Wisconsin. He recently completed his Eagle Scout service project: a housed seating area and bookshelves inside of Hortonville Elementary School's library! Maxwell's hard work provides the library with more seating for students and much needed shelving for books. It was designed to provide a creative and inviting area for 4k-4th grade students.
It was Maxwell's responsibility to secure donations, along with the design and implementation of his project. He was gifted a financial donation from Thrivent Financial, along with construction support from KT Services & Remodeling. Additionally, with the help of fellow Scouts and volunteers, the project was completed and installed earlier this spring.
