Charter Renewal 2023!

BE PREPARED for Charter Renewal 2023!

The charter renewal process for units to renew their charters with the National Council will start soon. Internet Recharter 2.0, the online tool used to recharter your unit, will open October 1. Specific instructions and training will be announced soon. But there are three important things your unit can do now to Be Prepared for Charter Renewal and get ready for this fall’s recharter process.

  1. Select your unit’s Recharter Champion: Your Recharter Champion is the leader responsible for completing and submitting your unit’s recharter. He/she can be any registered leader who is comfortable working with computers. Once you’ve selected your Recharter Champion, tell us who he/she is by sending an email to Assistant Council Commissioner Tom Hemr at tomhemr@gmail.com. We’ll make sure they get notices of recharter training and we’ll check-in regularly to make sure they’re getting their questions answered.

  2. Review your unit’s roster: Start by downloading a copy of your unit roster (here’s how to do that) to make sure it matches your records. If you have new members who aren’t registered yet, get their registrations in as soon as possible – it will make your rechartering process much simpler! Check to make sure you know which leaders will be returning in 2023 and to make sure you have someone in each of the required positions.

  3. Check the status of your leaders’ Youth Protection Training (YPT) certifications: Our biggest responsibility as leaders is to make sure we provide a safe Scouting environment for the youth we work with. A key foundations for doing that is to make sure every registered leader is current with their Youth Protection Training. Almost half of Bay-Lakes Council’s unit Scouters have YPT certificates that will expire before the end of the year, when recharter applications are due. Check the YPT training status of the leaders in your unit (here’s how leaders can do that) and make sure their certification is valid for 2023. If it’s not – have them get online (here’s how to do that) to renew their training. It only takes a little over an hour to complete. Doing it now will make sure we meet our responsibilities to provide a safe environment for our Scouts and will avoid getting caught in a year-end crunch of procrastinators who waited until the last minute to get that done.
